It goes without saying that the bigger the number of exploding phones, the more worrying the whole thing gets, and today Samsung’s getting all the attention. Again. With a different phone.
A Samsung Galaxy S6 exploded onboard a China Airlines flight earlier this month, filling the cabin with smoke and causing injuries to the man who was holding it. The flight, identified as CI027, was heading to Taipei, when a Galaxy S6 burst into flames, leading to small burns to the owner, who quickly threw it to the ground
Flight attendants managed to stop the fire quite quickly, and nobody else was injured, but the cabin was filled with smoke, which obviously can’t make you feel safe, especially mid-flight.

Samsung remaining tightlipped

Taiwan’s Aviation Safety Council has already started an investigation, but stated in a press release that the aircraft landed at Taoyuan International Airport safely at 2014 and everyone on board was safe.
“After receiving the notification, Aviation Safety Council (ASC) sent the investigators for flight crew and cabin crew interviews, and removed the CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder), and FDR (Flight Data Recorder). The event is identified as an aviation occurrence according to Aviation Occurrence Investigation Act, and with reference to ICAO Annex 13. The Investigator-In-Charge and investigation team has been assigned to this investigation,” the ASC said.
Samsung hasn’t yet issued a statement on this, but the company is certainly looking into this case, so expect more information to emerge in the coming weeks.
As for the causes of the fire, nothing is certain at the moment, but what’s important to note (no pun intended) is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 isn’t suffering from a widespread battery issue as it was confirmed in the case of the Note 7. Most likely, this was caused by physical damage or other factors, but this remains to be determined by the involved parties.

World of tank Blitz
Tanks are iconic machines, even today, in spite of the fact that we have nuclear bombs, drones, and all sorts of other inventions that are technically more advanced. However, when it comes to actually conquering objectives on ground and dealing with infantry, tanks are still at the heart of the battle. Hence, tank simulators are very popular in the video games industry.

Defeat your enemies as quickly as possible using tanks

World of Tanks Blitz is a multiplayer arena shooter that’s a more arcade and quick version of the incredibly popular World of Tanks simulator, which has been around for quite a few years. In short, this is a 7-vs-7 co-op battle in which two teams go head-to-head in order to conquer objectives or simply destroy each other until one of the teams is the last one standing.

You get to choose from a variety of tanks from all the great powers of the world, including Russia, Germany and China. On top of that, all of them can be upgraded with new components and improved, although that requires currency, which is earned by winning battles. Thankfully, the matchmaking engine can find you a match in a matter of seconds, even if the game is still in beta at this point.

Decent graphics and simple controls

Although this is not a pure arcade game, the simulation is not on the level of the original game, since it would be a tad tedious, given the nature of the battles. As such, while the projectiles still follow a pretty realistic trajectory, everything else is much easier to manage and control. Besides your tank, it’s also important to keep an eye on your crew as well, although most of this part revolves around using medkits whenever they get injured.

The controls are fairly simple as well, since all you need to do is use WASD to move around, the mouse to aim and shoot, as well as a few other keys if you want to use items or perform other actions. In addition, the graphics are nice as well, although not as detailed as you might expect. This allows more people to enjoy the game, on the other hand, because the system requirements are lower as well.

An addictive action game for semi-casual players

Even if World of Tanks Blitz is not entirely newbie-friendly, it can certainly be approached by almost everyone, provided you go through the tutorial. Hence, it’s a great stepping stone toward more serious simulators, or maybe just a guilty pleasure you can enjoy whenever you have a bit of spare time.

World of Tanks Blitz Destroy Your Enemy

Certain communities are harder to please than others, which is especially true when it comes to cinephiles and gamers. Sometimes it’s because a new episode in the series does not seem to be as good as the previous ones, but other times it’s just stubbornness to go along with change. Old fans turned their nose at Fallout 3 when it first came out, due to the first-person perspective and even the soundtrack. By the time New Vegas was released, everyone pretty much accepted it and moved on.

Be the captain of your own ship and explore the universe

Star Trek Online has to deal with one of the pickiest and hard-to-please fanbases out there, so the developers were certainly quite brave. Thankfully, it turned out alright in regards to lore and general Star Trek trivia, but there are a few other mistakes that may alter your experience. As a whole, on the other hand, the game is worthy of its name, and Trekkies can truly lose themselves for a few hundreds hours.

Although it’s classified as an MMO, don’t expect the same experience as in World of Warcraft. Most of the missions you undertake have to be completed on your own, although given the fact that you are the captain of a spaceship, there are always a few hundred crew members around. Obviously, PVP is also possible later on, but you need good gear to survive such bold endeavors. In order to get gear, you have to grind for quite a bit, which is not a very attractive prospect.

Good graphics and a massive map to explore

As far as the combat is concerned, you are either fighting using your spaceship, or down on the ground using your character. The latter is a bit disappointing, because there’s not much to it, other than clicking on enemies and waiting for their HP bars to drop. On the other hand, the space combat is a bit more exciting, although it’s also repetitive as hell. Still, you get to both pilot and shoot a variety of powerful guns, and there are some interesting maneuvers you can try as well.

From a technical point of view, the graphics look positively decent, especially thanks to the world design. There are many impressive constructions taken right out of the TV series, not to mention all the curious races that populate the universe and the customizable spaceships. The karmic punch comes in the form of bugs, which have a way of annoying you on a regular basis. A great deal of them have been fixed since the game was released, but the work is definitely not over.

A good way to enjoy your favorite fictional universe

All in all, Star Trek Online may not be perfect, but thanks to the original voice actors and extreme attention to lore, it should please most Star Trek fans out there. As a game, on the other hand, it can get pretty repetitive and pointless after a while, especially if you are not into grinding for resources and currency.

Yes, that’s right, Nokia is coming back in to the market and are to launch a new Android smartphone in early 2017.

HMD Global, the company formed by ex Nokia executives licensed the Nokia handset brand from Microsoft on Thursday, and have reportedly already signed and sealed partnerships with Google and phone manufacturer Foxconn.

But will nostalgia help re-establish the Nokia brand as a going concern, or are the glory days of being the world’s leading phone manufacturer well and truly in the past?

Arto Nummela, the head of HMD Global thinks not. “Consumers may be carrying different smartphones now, but are they really in love and loyal to those brands?… We want to be one of the key competitive players in the smartphone business.”

The original Nokia phone business was bought by Microsoft in 2014 and was used to launch the now dead Windows based Lumia phone range. Microsoft however culled the brand in 2015 after a series of disappointing results showed that its peak, the Windows range of phones only accounted for 2% of smartphone market share.

The Nokia brand itself lived on as a maker of old school ‘dumb’ phones mainly in Asian markets and Eastern Europe.

The Mighty That Have Fallen

Nokia, like Blackberry, Yahoo and other former tech giants found itself on the backfoot when it missed the initial land grab for first generation smartphones, and then did not manage to pick up market share with its own hybrid smartphone operating systems. The decision to then hitch its horses to Microsoft’s unpopular (if technically brilliant) smart phone OS brought the company to its knees before Microsoft bought the brand out and replaced the Nokia logo with Windows Phone.

HMD has now however resurrected the brand, and has exclusive rights to use the Nokia logo on mobile phones and tablets for at least the next decade.

While Nokia itself as a company is an independent entity from HMD and will have no financial stake in the new range of Nokia mobile devices, HMD will pay royalties to Nokia.

Time will tell if Nokia will once again become synonymous with mobile phones people want to own in the future, or whether they should remain as pleasant memories.
